CHAIR'S MESSAGE

My fellow members and colleagues,
It goes without saying that last week’s US elections have set the stage for lots of dialogue that will affect our trade. The incoming US Administration will revisit emissions targets and global trade. Very soon, they will also revisit CUSMA (also known as the USMCA), as its renewal is set for 2026.

I truly feel that this is a crucial time for the moldmaking and advanced manufacturing sectors as we have a confluence of tectonic shifts right now that will shape the years to come. My role at CAMM will involve a lot of dialogue with government officials and also executives in our industry. We will reach out to you on your thoughts. When we do, we strongly encourage your feedback.

This year has been challenging and although history doesn’t repeat (as some are comparing 2024 with 2008), it certainly rhymes. 2024 is different than 2008 because presently, we are also dealing with a generational shift, introduction and adoption of new technologies, and persistent geopolitical conflicts to name a few. But what’s similar to the past, as long as products (auto and non-auto) are being produced here, there will still be a need for quality moldmakers. What we have traditionally done in the past may be different from what we do in the future.

Together, we can navigate these changes and continue to thrive in our industry. Your support and engagement are invaluable as we move forward. Thank you for your dedication and commitment.

Please reach out any time if you have any questions or comments. I’d love to hear from you.

Sincerely,
Saylo

Through our efforts, we aim to build a stronger, more diverse workforce that will lead us into the future of manufacturing.

Thank you once again for being an integral part of this community. CAMM’s achievements are a direct result of your engagement, and I am proud to work alongside each of you as we champion the mold making industry. Together, let’s keep pushing boundaries and setting new standards for excellence.

Corpay – Market Brief: Trump Trade Eases, Dollar Retreats

Market momentum is fading this morning after investors speed-ran the “Trump trade” in yesterday’s session. The trade-weighted dollar is retreating after recording its best day in more than two years, with the Canadian dollar, euro, pound, and yen all up roughly half a percentage point while the Mexican peso – widely considered a proxy for US isolationism risks – is trading above pre-election levels. Treasury yields are easing somewhat, North American equity futures are consolidating gains, and oil prices are weakening.
