Canadian employers anticipate dynamic hiring climate for Q3: ManpowerGroup survey

Employers in the Manufacturing sector report the highest industry Outlook (+55%), followed by Primary Production (+53%), IT, Technology, Telecoms, Communications and Media (+48%) and then others.

TORONTO — According to the latest ManpowerGroup Employment Outlook Survey, Canadian employers anticipate a dynamic hiring climate for the third quarter of 2022.

“Employment prosperity across Canada is strong,” said Darlene Minatel, Country Manager of ManpowerGroup Canada. “These survey results indicate a period of vigorous opportunity for job seekers. Eight quarters of consistent growth for Canada’s Net Employment Outlook suggest that employers have adjusted well to business volatility triggered by the pandemic.”

With seasonal variations removed from the data, the Net Employment Outlook for Canada is +43%, a 6-percentage point increase from the previous quarterly Outlook (2Q 2022) and a 24-percentage point increase from the Outlook reported during the same time last year (3Q 2021). Employers in all regions of the country and most industry sectors surveyed expect to add to payrolls next quarter.

The survey of more than 1,000 employers across Canada reveals that 47% plan to increase their staffing levels in the third quarter of 2022, while 11% anticipate cutbacks, resulting in a Net Employment Outlook of +36%. Once the data is adjusted to allow for seasonal variation, the Outlook stands at +43%. Meanwhile, 40% of the employers surveyed expect their current staffing levels to remain unchanged, while the remaining 2% are unsure of their hiring intentions.
