Likely much faster than we think. Gartner, a well-known U.S.-headquartered technology research and consulting firm, predicts that by 2025, more than 20% of all products will be manufactured, packed, shipped and delivered without being touched by a person.
Gartner says this is a direct result of what it calls “hyperautomation”. Gartner describes hyperautomation as a combination of complementary sets of tools that can integrate functional and process silos to automate and augment business processes. It forecasts that hyperautomation-enabling software will lower organizational costs by 30 percent when combining hyperautomation technology with redesigned processes.
The reason for the massive gains is because so far automation has been adopted piecemeal, usually where integration was easiest or savings the most significant. Hyperautomation goes beyond this piecemeal approach to create an “overarching mindset that allows connected systems to leverage AI and machine learning on the fly. It’s automation, orchestration and optimization.” So it takes what automation is currently doing in isolated applications and applies it enterprise wide.
In a hyperautomation environment, lag or delays are identified and optimized automatically; preventative measures are performed automatically to slow wear or prevent failure; untapped automation opportunities are identified and processes are more flexible.
Hyperautomation was chosen as one of the top five automation trends by Automate 2023, the automation technologies and solutions show, scheduled for May 22-25 in Detroit, Michigan.
